Diarrhoea outbreak in Puri

A diarrhoea outbreak has been reported in several villages of the Kanas region in Puri district, with the number of affected individuals steadily rising. As of now, 92 people from various villages have been diagnosed with the disease, with 4 deaths linked to the outbreak.

As per reports, the source of the infection is established to the contaminated water of the Daya River, which has been linked to the spread of diarrhoea in the region. The disease has affected multiple villages, including Gadisagada, Gopinathpur, Nuagaon, and has now reached other areas such as Adal, Andarsingh, and Pandiakera.

In response to the crisis, a medical team has been deployed to the affected areas to conduct health screenings, distribute medicines, and raise awareness among the local population about the dangers of consuming contaminated water. People in the affected areas have been urged to avoid using water from the Daya River for drinking or other domestic purposes.

The Public Health Department has confirmed that the contamination in the Daya River is the cause of the outbreak. Samples taken from the affected areas have shown the presence of E-coli bacteria, further substantiating the link between the polluted water and the spread of diarrhoea.

Health officials are working urgently to contain the situation and prevent further spread of the disease, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining hygiene and avoiding contaminated water sources. Local authorities are also continuing efforts to provide clean drinking water to the affected communities.

The local population, however, previously raised concerns about the insufficient water supply to meet their daily needs. They also claimed that Kanas lacked a clean piped water supply system, forcing residents to rely entirely on the Daya River for their water needs.
