Puri Jagannath Temple
In a significant update concerning the management of Srimandir, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Tuesday informed that the state government is all set to introduce ‘Dhadi Darshan, a queue management system for the darshan of deities at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.
The proposed queue-based darshan system (Dhadi Darshan) is likely to be implemented by the end of this month, aiming to streamline the flow of devotees and enhance temple discipline.
The Minister announced this during his visit to Tara Tarini temple in Berhampur, where he addressed the media about the state government’s ongoing reforms in temple administration across Odisha, with a special focus on the world-famous Jagannath Temple in Puri.
Harichandan stated that within a week, the long-awaited Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee would be officially constituted. The formation of this committee is seen as a pivotal step in enhancing governance, transparency, and operational efficiency at the temple.
“The Managing Committee will take shape within this week. Following its formation, one of the first decisions expected to be approved is the proposal to shift the temple hundis (donation boxes). This process will be carried out only after receiving the required nod from both the Committee and the Odisha Government,” he added.
The Law Minister emphasized that the new managing committee will not only be responsible for administrative reforms but will also ensure better darshan experiences for lakhs of devotees who visit the temple daily.
The proposed Dhadi Darshan system is expected to bring order to the current free-flow format and ensure safety, especially during festivals and peak hours.
