While Bhubaneswar and 12 other districts are reportedly witnessing a surge in Dengue cases, State Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Tuesday assuaged the fear saying in comparison to the last year, the number of Dengue cases has decreased this year.
“Last year during this time, 10,000 tests were done, and of them, 700 patients tested positive for Dengue. This year, 18,000 tests have so far been done and 550 patients have tested positive for the disease,” said Mishra.
“Ten districts have not reported any Dengue cases as yet. In 12 districts, the number of cases has not touched the double-digit. In seven districts, the number is below 40,” he added.
“In Khordha district, the number is slightly high. To bring the situation under control, all necessary steps are being taken. Municipal corporations, municipalities and panchayat samitis have been asked to create awareness among the people,” he further added.
Notably, a seven-year-old child from Khandagiri area allegedly died of dengue while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Similarly, a 62-year-old woman suffering from dengue also lost her fight against the disease. She died while undergoing treatment in the Capital Hospital.
