The decomposed body of a young woman, missing for the last eight months, was recovered from a deep mine on Friday in Kalinga Mundia under Khordha Sadar police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Nirupama Parida alias Mita, who worked as a caretaker at a residence in the Bharatpur area under Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police.

On January 24, Nirupama had reportedly informed over phone that she was heading to her native village Ranpur. However, she never reached home and went missing the same day. A missing complaint was lodged at Bharatpur Police Station on January 27, following which police launched an investigation.

Her family also submitted petitions to the Chief Minister and the Speaker of the Assembly seeking justice. Police sources said that during the probe, one Ranjit Bisoi alias Kanha was under the scanner.

On Friday, Nirupama’s body was found in a decomposed state at Kalinga Mundia. Her father and brother identified the body and alleged that she had been murdered. They held Ranjit Bisoi responsible for her death and demanded stringent punishment against him.

The police have sent the body to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for a post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Further investigation is underway.
