A first-year B.Tech Computer Science student from Nepal at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar was found dead on Thursday evening. Her body was reportedly recovered in one of the girls' hostels of the varsity.
This is the second death of a Nepali student at the university in the past three months.
Expressing deep sorrow over the death of the Nepali girl student, the Odisha government extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured all support.
Through a letter, the I&PR Department said, “In this hour of distress, the State Government extends its support to the family of the deceased and offers its condolences to them. On receipt of the information, senior officers, including the Commissioner of Police and Revenue Divisional Commissioner, rushed to the site to enquire into the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and take necessary action in the matter. The forensic team is at the spot to collect evidence.”
Investigative teams are working closely with university authorities to determine whether any external factors contributed to the tragedy.
The dead body was reportedly recovered in one of the girls' hostels of the varsity. It has been learned that the deceased was a B.Tech 1st year student of the University. The victim has been identified as Prisha Saha from Birgunj in Nepal.
Commenting on the incident, Police Commissioner, S Dev Datta Singh said, “Today evening at around 7 PM, when attendance was being taken, the concerned student, who was alone in the room, did not respond. Then, upon checking, she was found hanging. Then we were informed. We are conducting an investigation. A scientific team has also reached the spot, and the victim’s room is being searched. The victim's friends are also present, and they are cooperating. Prima facie, no note has been found in the immediate surroundings of the dead body. However, the scientific team is conducting a search. An unnatural death case has been registered as no complaint has been received.”
