Infocity police constable Nirakar Khatua who shifted the body from the hostel
Within three months, another Nepali girl student of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar was found dead on Thursday. Her body was reportedly recovered in one of the girls' hostels of the varsity.
However, serious questions have been raised regarding the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the student's body after Nirakar Khatua, a constable posted at Infocity Police Station, stated that the body was not retrieved by the police.
Khatua, who accompanied the body for post-mortem, revealed that the body was brought from the KIMS Medical Emergency Ward to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for autopsy examination. Meanwhile, the constable's claim indicates that the body was not recovered by the police from the hostel, but possibly by KIIT staff.
The central question emerges as to why a KIIT employee intervened in the rescue efforts, especially in a scenario involving a hanging victim. The discrepancies in these accounts have raised several questions, necessitating further investigation.
“The body was lying on a bed when we reached the spot. Later, I brought it for autopsy. We have not seen it hanging,” informed Constable Nirakar Khatua.
Meanwhile, no comments from KIIT University officials could be obtained over the matter.
Commenting on the incident, Police Commissioner, S Dev Datta Singh said, “On May 1 evening at around 7 PM, when attendance was being taken, the concerned student, who was alone in the room, did not respond. Then, upon checking, she was found hanging. Then we were informed. We are conducting an investigation. A scientific team has also reached the spot, and the victim’s room is being searched. The victim's friends are also present, and they are cooperating. Prima facie, no note has been found in the immediate surroundings of the dead body. However, the scientific team is conducting a search. An unnatural death case has been registered as no complaint has been received.”
