Cyclone Dana: Odisha Fire Services Personnel Ready
Odisha is again bracing up for another cyclone, the first this season. Already, a depression has formed and it is likely to intensify into cyclonic storm Dana by tomorrow.
Amidst the impending cyclonic storm, the role of Odisha Fire Services, ODRAF and other allied agencies assumes much importance, not only during the cyclone period but post cyclone as well.
These agencies are the first responders to any emergency situation and they also play a crucial role in carrying out relief and rescue operations, road clearance and ensuring restoration of critical services along with multiple department.

Both ODRAF and Fire Services units from Odisha had played a crucial role in assisting neighbouring West Bengal that was hit by cyclone Amphan in 2020.
Odisha had sent a team of 500 members, including 300 fire personnel and 10 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) teams to assist in relief and rescue operations.

The work by Odisha teams was lauded by several states post the cyclone Amphan as despite threat of COVID-19, the team from Odisha faced the situation boldly and helped people in distress in Kolkata.
Another Challenge for Odisha Fire Services personnel and ODRAF
Now the Odisha Fire Services personnel and ODRAF units also face another challenge in the form of cyclone Dana which is likely to hit the state on October24-25.
The teams are ready with their equipment, ensuring that they are in functional state. From powerful lights to cutters, inflatable boats and other gadgets, the teams are ready and have made necessary preparations to deal with any situation.
