Cuttack SCB medical data entry operator caught red-handed while taking Rs 2000 bribe

Smruti Ranjan Sahoo, a data entry operator at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, was apprehended by Vigilance sleuths for accepting a Rs 2000 bribe. He demanded money from a poor individual for supplying Hepatitis C medication that is supposed to be free.

A data entry operator of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, Smruti Ranjan Sahoo, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2000 from a person for providing free medicine for his father’s treatment. 

As per reports, Sahoo, working as a Data Entry Operator in the Hepatology Department at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, demanded Rs 2000 from a poor person to supply prescribed Hepatitis C medicine for his father. Though the drugs are provided free of cost, he was demanding Rs 2000 from people, including the poor. 

Though the patient’s son requested Sahoo to give him the medicine free of cost, the latter refused to provide the same if his demand was not met.

With no other option left, he reported the matter to the Vigilance Authority. 

Accordingly, the Vigilance sleuths laid a trap. While receiving the demanded money from the said person, the officials caught Sahoo red-handed. The entire bribe money was recovered from him. 

Registering a case (Cuttack Vigilance PS case no 30/2024 U/s-7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018), the Vigilance department has initiated a probe into it.
