SCB Medical College and Hospital
The Odisha government will transform Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) into an AIIMS++ level institution with a Rs 4,474.49 crore redevelopment plan.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced plans for this healthcare boost on Wednesday after reviewing the ongoing redevelopment project, aiming to complete the first phase by June 2026.
Post-upgrade, the hospital’s bed capacity will surge to 3,796, enhancing specialised care and medical education infrastructure.
The revamp includes modern facilities such as advanced diagnostic centres, upgraded surgical units, and expanded academic spaces. Further, SCB MCH’s elevation to AIIMS++ standards aligns with the state’s goal to establish it as a regional healthcare hub.

Additionally, the Acharya Harihar Cancer Institute in Cuttack will see its bed count rise to 1,127 under an Rs 895.89 crore redevelopment.
The projects will focus on modernising infrastructure, adding hostels, patient-family residential complexes, and auditoriums. Notably, this initiative follows the state’s plan to establish new medical colleges in Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur.
To support the expanded infrastructure, the government has recruited 4,000 medical professionals in the last 10 months and plans to hire 5,000 more doctors and dentists to address healthcare gaps and position Odisha as a leader in affordable, quality medical services.
