In a shocking incident, a sub-inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) allegedly died by suicide at Khadupani CRPF camp under Boden police limits in Nuapada district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as D Gunasekharan, a resident of Tamil Nadu. He allegedly shot himself with his service AK 47.

Police sources said, the deceased sub-inspector had applied for leave to go to his village in Tamil Nadu a few days ago. But his leave application was rejected which infuriated him.

While he was on duty today, he allegedly shot himself with his service AK 47 rifle.

On being informed, a team from Boden police station reached the spot along with a scientific team, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.

Informing about the incident, Nuapada SP G R Raghavendra said, “Our sub-inspector Gunasekharan committed suicide by firing from his service AK-47 rifle. After post-mortem, we will airlift the body to his native village.”

Notably, a CRPF jawan, identified as Prasannajit Pal, who hailed from West Bengal, ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle at Padampur in Bargarh district in March this year.
