A jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service gun in Padmapur of Bargarh district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Prasannajit Pal, who hailed from West Bengal.

The reason behind his suicide is yet to be ascertained.

As per reports, Pal was serving at the 189 battalions of CRPF camp in the Maoist-infested Padmapur area under Jagdalpur police station in Bargarh district. The camp was near the border of Chhattisgarh. The jawan was having his duty on a watch tower from 10 pm to 12 am on Monday night. Later, his lifeless body was discovered by his colleagues.

Following a preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Pal shot himself dead with his service gun. Subsequently, the body was sent to Padmapur hospital for post-mortem. Following the post-mortem, the body will be sent to Bargarh.

As per CRPF sources, the investigation into the incident is currently underway. The exact cause behind the suicide will be ascertained after the completion of the investigation.

Family members of the deceased have been informed about the incident and they are supposed to reach the camp soon, sources said.
