Crime rates marginally increased in Odisha in 2024
Criminal cases in the state have seen a surge in Odisha, revealed Chief Minister Mohan Majhi in Odisha Assembly on Monday. As per the information shared by CM Majhi, who holds the portfolios of Home Department, a total of 2,14,113 criminal cases were registered in 2024, showing an increase from 1,99,954 cases in 2023.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi provided these figures in a written response to the assembly, highlighting the escalating crime rates that continue to concern residents. The figures indicate a growing trend that law enforcement authorities are grappling with.

Majhi has urged for additional resources and strategies to address this worrying increase. He also attributed the rise in registration of cases to several factors including population growth, increased reporting of cases, and rapid economic development.
In response to the rise, the state government is expected to implement more robust measures to curb the spree of offences. Authorities stress the importance of community involvement and awareness in reducing crime.
