Corruption crackdown: Ex-assistant engineer in Keonjhar gets 2-year jail term
The Special Vigilance Court in Keonjhar on Friday convicted Gourahari Sahu, a former Assistant Engineer of Champua Block, in a corruption and misappropriation case related to development works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
Sahu, now retired, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409, 120-B, and 34 of the IPC, after an investigation revealed irregularities and misappropriation of government funds meant for road improvement works in Champua Block.
After examining the evidence, the court held Sahu guilty and sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
