Construction of Jayadev Vihar-Nandankanan flyover in Bhubaneswar to begin soon, targets FY 2027 completion

Construction work on a new flyover connecting Jayadev Vihar and Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar will commence soon, stated Odisha Works Department Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Tuesday.

During an interaction with the media, Harichandan stated that the state government had already approved the initial proposal for the overbridge and that focus would now be given to preparing technical outlines for the project.

The minister shared that the current plans involve the construction of a 4-lane flyover stretching from Jayadev Vihar Square to Nandakan Square. Approach and escape ways will be provided at major intersections along the route to ensure proper convenience to the commuters.

The existing roads will also continue to function below the flyover vastly improving traffic congestion that currently plagues key junctions such as Damana Square and Patia Chhak. Furthermore, Prithviraj Harichandan also clarified that the existing NH-16 flyover passing through Jayadev Vihar will not be demolished and the new overbridge will be connected to it for seamless connectivity.

“The new flyover will serve as a lifeline for Bhubaneswar. Along with the aim to ease traffic congestion, the flyover is also being constructed to ensure that no land procurement inconvenience is dealt to the people, which would have been the case with road expansion.,” the minister added.

With regard to a deadline for project completion, the minister said that he expected a large part of the flyover to be complete by the 2027-2028 financial year.
