A fraudster was arrested for allegedly duping hundreds of Plus 2 students in Balasore and Bhadrak districts on the pretext of helping them pass the annual examination.

As per reports, the fraudster identified himself as a senior employee of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) and won the trust of several students and their guardians. In the process, he promised to help them clear Plus 2 examination and took more than Rs 10,000 from each candidate.

However, the candidates and the guardians somehow came to know about the fraudster and lodged a complaint about the incident at Balasore Industrial police station.

Subsequently, when the fraudster called the candidates to the Biju Patnaik Park to have a deal, police nabbed him. A car, some gold ornaments, eight debit cards and Rs 60,000 were seized from his possession.

“The fraudster is a 39-year-old man. As per the investigation till now, he has duped around 300 candidates. Some more candidates are expected to have been duped,” said Balasore SP Sagarika Nath.

“The fraudster has taken money from them through cash and online transactions. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway,” she added.
