To mark three years of the new National Education Policy (NEP) in India, a conference was held in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The topic of the conference was the implementation of NEP in all the Kendriya Vidyalayas of Odisha.
As per reports, India has a total of 1053 KVs, out of which 67 are in Odisha.
The conference was joined by representatives from Koraput Central University, Bhubaneswar IIT, and the Regional Institute of Education.
The NEP was framed by the Centre in July 2020.
As per the policy, students have been divided into four age groups - 3-8 years (foundational stage), 8-11 (preparatory), 11-14 (middle), and 14-18 (secondary). The policy brings the pre-school education for children belonging to 3-5 year age group under the ambit of formal schooling.
The NEP says students until Class 5 should be taught in their mother tongue or regional language.
As per the policy, a child can enroll his/her name for class I in a school after attending 7 years of age. But the most important reform is that there will be no Class X board exams. Similarly, the graduation course which used to be of three years, now will be of four years.
