Amid allegations of rising ganja smuggling in various parts of the state, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police seized 73 kg of contraband from an SUV at Tapoban Chhak in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. Two ganja peddlers were also arrested while two others managed to escape. 

As per reports, police had got prior information that an SUV was carrying hashish. A team from Bharatpur Police Station intercepted the vehicle at Tapoban Chhak. On searching the vehicle, police found 73 kg of ganja and seized it. 

The contraband, which was valued approximately at Rs 7 lakh, was being smuggled from Khordha to Cuttack.

Police arrested two persons – Brusabh Kanhar and Muli Digal. Two other drug peddlers managed to give police a slip.

Speaking to the media, ACP Tapas Pradhan said, “On Wednesday evening, Bharatpur IIC got information from reliable sources about the supply of ganja in a white Bolero coming from the Tamando side toward Cuttack. A team of police officials immediately swung into action and intercepted the vehicle in which 73 kg of ganja was found in four bags.”

He added that two persons were arrested while two others absconded.
