Commissionerate Police busts interstate arms racket ahead of festive season
In a major breakthrough ahead of the festive season, the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested three interstate arms dealers in a special operation. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Special Crime Unit conducted a raid and seized a large cache of weapons and vehicles from the accused.
According to officials, the raid led to the recovery of 8 semi-automatic firearms, 32 rounds of live ammunition, and 3 high-end luxury cars. The arrested accused have been identified as Mahesh Kumar from Jharkhand, Mohammad Sakawat from Khordha, and Firoz Ali Khan.
Police sources revealed that the accused had assembled in Bhubaneswar with the intention of carrying out arms deals during the festive period. They were allegedly preparing to supply firearms to customers who had already placed orders.
Reliable sources tipped off the Commissionerate Police about the illegal operation, prompting a swift raid that successfully foiled the racket. The arrested individuals are now under interrogation, with officials trying to ascertain the full extent of their network, possible buyers, and whether the seized arms were linked to larger organised crime or extremist activity.
The bust marks a significant success for the Commissionerate Police in their pre-festival security operations. Authorities have assured that vigilance will be intensified in the coming weeks to ensure safety and prevent illegal activities during the festive celebrations.
