Odisha continues to reel under intense cold conditions with the mercury dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in 11 places, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
Due to the intense cold conditions, people are taking the help of campfires to protect themselves from the spine-chilling cold. Some places are also witnessing early morning fog which is creating troubles for the commuters due to poor visibility.
According to IMD (India Meteorological Department) reports, Phulbani recorded the lowest night (minimum) temperature at 8 degrees Celsius, accordingly Korei recorded 8.2 degrees Celsius.
The other cities that have recorded below 10 degrees Celsius are G Udayagiri (8), Rourkela ( 8.8), Angul (9), Daringbadi & Sundargarh 9.5 degrees, Keonjhar & Koraput 9.6 degrees, Jharsuguda (9.8). The Twin Cities of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar recorded 13.4 and 13.5 degrees, respectively.
“We are experiencing cold conditions from the evening till the next morning 10-11 am. The main issue that is emerging is the fog as it is reducing the visibility on the road. It poses a threat to the lives of commuters as accidents might occur. People in the village are taking help of campfires to get respite from the bone-chilling cold,” said a resident of Phublani.
Another local of Phulbani said, “Due to the cold, tourists are coming here and having tea Khatti (gossip) here. To fight the cold, we are regularly working out, drinking tea, and other alternatives to keep our body warm.”
