Are you engaging domestic help in your house without checking their background and not keeping track of their activities? Beware! Your valuable articles or cash may be at risk. An incident, which has taken place in Jharpada Jagannath Nagar Road area under Laxmi Sagar limits in Bhubaneswar, came as an eye-opener for residents. A CCTV in a house has captured a woman engaged as maid by the owners, stealing cash. 

As per reports, Bibhu Prasad Mohapatra of Jagannath Nagar Road area engaged a woman domestic help identified as Mami Patra in his house for a monthly salary of Rs 4000. As construction of Mohapatra’s house is underway, he has been keeping cash in his house to make payments to labourers and masons.

According to the owner, when he found the cash of around Rs 1 lakh was missing, he checked the CCTV fixed inside the wardrobe. The domestic help was seen in the CCTV footage stealing around Rs 1 lakh cash from the wardrobe. Following the theft, the family filed a complaint at Laxmisagar police station.

After the incident, the accused has been absconding. Police have registered a case and started a manhunt for the accused.  At the time of filing of this report, no reactions were received from the police. 

Notably, a similar incident had taken place in the Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar a few days ago. A youth, who was engaged as a caretaker of an elderly woman, had decamped with valuable gold jewelleries. Following a complaint, the Khandagiri Police arrested the caretaker youth and seized the stolen gold.
