Rs 20 lakh looted from ATM in Balasore, act caught on CCTV camera

Unidentified miscreants allegedly looted cash worth Rs 20 lakh from an ATM kiosk located at Bahanaga Bazaar under Soro police limits in Balasore district in the wee hours of Monday. 

The loot of the SBI ATM was captured in a CCTV camera installed at the counter. On the basis of the footage, the police have started an investigation into the matter.

As per reports, two miscreants with their faces covered entered the ATM kiosk with a gas cutter and broke open the ATM machine late on Sunday night. Then, they decamped with the cash after dragging down the shutters before the house owner (a part of the private residence rented for the ATM) could act. The house owner informed local police about the incident.

Nigamananda Sahu a local resident, said, “The ATM counter is close to my shop. I usually shut my shop at 12.30 am. Nothing had happened to the ATM counter till that time yesterday. In the morning, we saw the ATM broken and cash taken away.    

Meanwhile, police started an investigation into the matter and checked the CCTV footage of the ATM and other CCTV cameras in the locality. The police are trying to ascertain the identity of the accused.
