As devotees thronged Dhabaleswar Temple to have darshan of Lord Dhabaleswar for ‘Bada Osa’ during the holy Kartik month, thieves are also active to take advantage of the crowd.

A mobile looter was detained by the police on Saturday after he was caught on CCTV while stealing a mobile phone from a devotee near Bhog Mandap in Cuttack’s Dhabaleswar Temple.

The identity of the looter is yet to be ascertained.

According to sources, police traced out the looter by reviewing the CCTV footage installed inside the shrine. The police detained the looter and recovered one mobile phone from his possession.

Sources said, around three mobile phones have been stolen inside the temple. Police have already initiated an investigation to find the other thieves who were involved in the stealing.

Devotees need to be careful while offering prayers at the temples. As the religious shrines are witnessing a huge footfall due to Kartik month, the looters are also seeing a green flag to commit theft. So, devotees should adopt careful measures to protect their valuables, said a police official.
