A child was critically injured after a car ran him over while he was sleeping on the footpath in Unit 2 area of Bhubaneswar on Monday night.
The injured child was rushed to the Capital Hospital for treatment.
As per reports, the driver lost control of the steering wheel and went over the footpath near the slum behind Odisha Legislative Assembly. The uncontrolled car came to a halt after hitting a wall.
The driver and two other occupants of the car fled the spot following the accident. It is suspected that the driver was drunk.

“The men who ran over their car on my child fled to a nearby government quarters. My son is serious and writhing in pain,” said the mother of the injured child.
“The car ran over the pavement and hit the boundary wall. When we heard the noise and looked, we saw a man with a black T-shirt and two others wearing white T-shirts getting out of the car. They soon started running. After that, we saw a small boy limping towards the middle of the road and collapsing. The car had hit the boy,” said a local slum dweller.
Capital Police reached the spot and pacified the slum dwellers. A probe has been launched to nab the driver.
Two buses collide on Vani Vihar overbridge
In another incident, a private bus collided with an Odisha State Regional Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus near Vani Vihar overbridge in Bhubaneswar early on Tuesday morning leaving both the drivers and many passengers injured.
It is suspected that the driver of the private bus failed to spot the stationery OSRTC bus due to dense fog following which the private bus rammed it from behind.
All the injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The police have launched a probe.
