The Odisha Cabinet approved six significant proposals in its meeting on Wednesday. This sets the stage for long-term strategic development as the State convenes to deliberate on the Odisha Vision Document 2036. This forward-looking document aims to map out the developmental trajectory of Odisha over the next decade.
Key officials underscored the document’s importance in steering Odisha’s progress while tackling prevalent challenges.
According to official sources, the Cabinet has approved six major proposals, and a significant decision among them is the revision of the minimum qualification for Anganwadi workers, which has now been raised from Matriculation to Graduation.
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the amendment of Odisha Excise Rules, 2017, and the restructuring of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe cadre, with the creation of 24 new posts. The excise constable division structure has been changed from divisional to district-level cadre.
In a major boost to irrigation infrastructure, the Cabinet has approved Rs 108 crore projects for the development of left and right canals of Baitarani river, which will bring irrigation to 60,000 hectares of farmland across Bhadrak, Balasore, and Keonjhar districts.
The Cabinet has also approved a Rs 2,398 crore allocation for the operation of 108 emergency health services over the next five years. The program will include 866 ambulances to enhance emergency response across the State.
“As new technologies are being adopted these days in Anganwadi centres, the eligibility criteria (educational qualification) for promotion of an Anganwadi worker to ICDS supervisor was changed from Matriculation to Graduation,” Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said.
