Burglaries continue rampantly in various parts of Bhubaneswar, despite security and surveillance measures being stepped up.
Thieves broke into the campus of Vani Vihar and managed to loot gold ornaments, valuables, and cash worth Rs 2 lakh on Friday night when the family was out for a few hours.

Such incidents have been happening one after another for the last several months, even though the Commissionerate Police has been carrying out a safe city drive. Members of some burglary gangs have been arrested in the past as well.

As per reports, Manoranjan Jena, an employee of Vani Vihar University stays with his family in government quarters on the university premises.

He said that thieves broke into his house by cutting the doors with cutters and then decamped with ornaments, laptops, Rs 2 lakh cash, and even a piggy bank of his daughter.

Following a complaint, police have started an investigation into the theft.

Manoranjan said, “We had gone out for a few hours in the evening. On returning home at 7.30 pm, we were shocked to see doors and the steel wardrobe broken. Ornaments and valuables were looted. Three gold chains, a laptop, and Rs 2 lakh cash were stolen. I filed an FIR.”

A team of police visited the spot and collected fingerprints.

No reaction from police was received.
