A gang of three burglars struck a jewellery shop at Kalarahanga in Patia area of Bhubaneswar and made away with gold and silver ornaments.

The incident is suspected to have occurred in the wee hours of Saturday. On Saturday morning, when the owner of the shop came to open his shop he was shocked to find the locks broken and the shutter damaged. He immediately informed the police and later lodged a complaint. After receiving the complaint, a team from Infocity Police Station along with a scientific team and dog squad reached the shop and launched a probe.

The police reportedly found the CCTV camera tampered with.

Meanwhile, the police said the value of the ornaments looted can be ascertained only after opening the shop.

“This has happened for the first time in my long eight years of business. During this period, I never doubted anyone. Besides silver ornaments, there were gold ornaments weighing 200 to 250 grams as well in the shop. But they were in the shop’s locker. So I hope they may be safe,” said Suresh Kumar Sathua, shop owner.

IIC of Infocity Police Station, PK Patnaik said, “Three robbers committed the crime. Using a crowbar they lifted the shutter and entered the shop.

While patrolling, we visited this locality at around 2.15 am and then, we didn’t find anyone near the shop. The value of the ornaments looted can be found only after opening the shop. We will scan the footage of nearby CCTV cameras.”
