Bundles of school uniforms, shoes found dumped in dumping yard in Koraput

Thousands of school uniforms and shoes, meant for school children, provided by the Odisha government were allegedly found in a dumping yard just 2kms from Boipariguda in Koraput district. The incident has drawn flak from all quarters.

The matter came to the fore after locals spotted a large number of school and Anganwadi uniforms in the dumping yard. The atrocious act has left parents and guardians of school children fuming, who demanded immediate arrest of the person involved in the dumping of the articles.

As per preliminary information, there was no clear information available about why these clothes, intended for children, were left to be wasted instead of being distributed. These uniforms were supposedly sent by the government for distribution to schools. However, it is a mystery who dumped them here.

There have been demands for an investigation to uncover who is behind this act and why it happened. It remains unclear whether someone from within the district or from elsewhere is responsible for discarding these items in this fashion.

Currently, there has been no official response from the local administration about this issue.

While the government is spending crores of rupees in several schemes like MDM (mid-day meal), and distribution of free uniforms and shoes to reduce the dropout rate, the act of irresponsible people has certainly come as a major concern.

A similar incident was reported in the Mayurbhanj district in 2023 where hundreds of school uniforms meant for the students were found dumped at an isolated place behind Raruan police station.
