Screengrab of viral video
A purported video depicting a heartless act of animal abuse has fuelled public outrage in Cuttack. In the video footage, a bull can be seen mercilessly tied to the back of a vehicle and dragged along the streets near Biren Mitra Park in CDA 11 area of the city.
What is more heart-wrenching is the fact that another bull could be seen trying to rescue the captured bull.
This shocking event occurred during the night of October 24 and as of now; its video has swiftly spread across social media platforms.
Following this distressing incident, the bull was placed into the vehicle for transportation. The footage has provoked significant outrage among the citizens of Cuttack, prompting calls for urgent intervention from the authorities.
Animal welfare groups and representatives from 'Go Sevak' and 'Hindu Sena' demanded the immediate arrest of the individuals involved in this act of cruelty.
"In the video recorded on October 24, it can be seen some miscreants are dragging a bull behind their vehicle. The person who shot the video and sent that to us couldn't dare to confront them as they had weapons. After seeing the video, we came to understand that cattle are being transported from here illegally," said Debashis Rout, a member of the Hindu Sena.
Echoing the same, a 'Go Sevak' said, "In the video, it can be seen that when no human being is coming to the rescue of the said bull, another bull is trying to rescue it. The miscreants can be seen thrashing the second bull. Such illegal bull transporting is so rampant that their population has drastically decreased."
Alleging that many bulls from the CDA area have been transported illegally, the Mahadev Sandha Seva Sangha lodged a written complaint at CDA Phase II Police Station, demanding immediate action. The association warned that if the miscreants involved were not arrested within seven days, they would stage a roadblock protest.
When contacted, Additional DCP, Cuttack Amarendra Panda said, "In connection with the incident, a case has been registered. We have started verifying the footage of CCTVs installed at all the nearby points."
