Construction of a PMAY-G house is underway
The Bonda tribe in Malkangiri is experiencing a remarkable transformation as modernisation initiatives reach their remote region. Previously considered isolated and underdeveloped, Bonda Ghati is now emerging as a symbol of progress.
As per sources, the tribal people, once residing in makeshift huts, are now benefiting from the construction of concrete houses under the Prime Minister’s housing scheme, PMAY-G.
Originally brought to light by Odisha’s leading news channel OTV, it was reported that the Bonda tribe was incurring higher than average expenses for building these homes. In response to this, the State government reacted swiftly, initiating development in Bonda Ghati. Materials such as cement, sand, and iron rods are now establishing the groundwork for permanent homes.
Residents of this forested and mountainous area, who were previously limited to thatched roofs, are witnessing the construction of durable homes that offer protection against severe weather conditions. Those benefiting from the housing scheme in Bonda Ghati have expressed particular satisfaction with these developments.
Despite numerous governmental schemes introduced for the upliftment of the marginalised Bonda tribe, many had remained largely unrealised until now. The current efforts appear more tangible, with 137 new homes in Mudulipada panchayat and 258 homes in Andrahal panchayat under construction, supported by an additional Rs 50,000 grant issued by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi following Deputy CM Pravati Parida’s visit to the region.
“We are getting more financial support after the new government was formed. However, the cost of house building materials including sand, stone chips, and cement have gone up in the meantime,” some residents of Bonda Ghati said to OTV.
Notably, each beneficiary receives Rs 2,30,000 to build a permanent house, representing a significant milestone in Bonda Ghati’s development journey.
