The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday took a tough stand against the electricity department and dumped heaps of garbage in front of its office at Chandrasekharpur.

According to a source, the electricity department staff are pruning the trees touching the overhead electricity cables, but it is alleged that after completing their task, they are leaving the pruned branches and twigs behind.

With an intention to teach a lesson, the BMC dumped the garbage in front of the electricity department’s office at Chandrasekharpur.

On the other hand, the electricity department staff opposed the move of the BMC because the latter had dumped the tree branches they had not cut. They staged a dharna, affecting the normal day-to-day works.

“We haven’t cut banana trees, drumstick trees and grass. But the BMC has dumped them in front of our office. It seems they have a grudge against us,” said an agitating employee.

“We had removed the pruned branches and we have the video records to prove our claims. When we confronted them (BMC staff), they said the Commissioner has directed them to do so,” another staff said.

Comments from the BMC officials could be obtained in this regard.
