In an incident that put a blot on Khaki, a constable along with another person was arrested in connection with Rs 30 lakh loot case in Paralakhemundi police limits of Gajapati district on Sunday. 

The arrested constable was identified as Tanuj Kumar Sabat (41) of Sarala Sahi under R. Udayagiri. Tanuj was the secretary of the Gajapati Zilla Constables’ Asociation. 

As per reports, police got information that a deal was underway to exchange currency notes of Rs 2000 denomination near a forest of Kerandi village. Police immediately raided the forest and arrested the constable Tanuj and Binod Raipilli, a resident of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Sources said that the cash which was being exchanged in the forest was earlier looted from a person.   

Police also seized cash and some cell phones from their possession.

A case was registered against the two following which the constable has been dismissed from the job, sources said. Several other persons of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh involved in the loot case are absconding. 

Speaking to media, Paralakhemundi SDPO Madhab Nayak said, “Paralakhemundi town police received information on January 25 evening that a person snatched away a bag containing cash from another person. Police swung into action and started an investigation into the matter. Police came to know that constable Tanuj and Binod Raipilli, a resident of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh were involved in the loot case.”
