A scuffle broke out between senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jayanarayan Mishra and a lady Police IIC of Dhanupali Police Station on Wednesday during a protest rally in Sambalpur.

As per reports, the incident occurred when BJP members led by the Leader of Opposition, Mishra took out a huge rally from Ashapali School protesting deterioration in law and order situation in the State.

The saffron party members were waylaid by the police when they attempted to gherao the Collector’s office. Ruckus ensued between the police and BJP members where Mishra and the IIC entered into a scuffle.

“The police were misbehaving with the female BJP members. When I went to the police to ask about the matter, the IIC stamped on my feet and shoved me,” alleged Mishra.

“When I told her (IIC), you are the same person involved neck-deep in corruption, she again pushed me. If an IIC can push the Leader of Opposition, then the highhandedness of the police department can be easily gauged,” Mishra added.

On the other hand, IIC Anita Pradhan said that the Leader of Opposition slapped her during an altercation. Pradhan also denied the allegations and said she never raised hand on the BJP leader.

Soon after the incident, an FIR was registered at Town Police Station against Mishra under sections 353, 332, 354, 294 and 500.

On the hand, the women wing of the BJP in Sambalpur also filed a complaint at the Town Police Station against the lady IIC for misbehaving with them and Mishra during the rally.

Cambalpur SP, B Gangadhar said, "I have sought a report from the concerned officials. We will take appropriate action after receiving the same."

Recently on February 3, Mishra had given up his personal security cover questioning the capabilities of the Odisha Police. Mishra has been unhappy with the Crime Branch probe into the murder case of Naba Das. He questioned the move to shift Naba Das to Bhubaneswar hospital after firing in Brajarajnagar.
