Following the sensational murder of Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJP MLA, Jayanarayan Mishra gave up his personal security cover on Friday.

Addressing the media, Mishra said, “The Odisha Police are operating as workers of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD). I have no trust left in them. So I am giving up my security detail provided by the Odisha police.”

Mishra has been unhappy with the Crime Branch probe into the murder case of Naba Das. He questioned the move to shift Naba Das to Bhubaneswar hospital after firing in Brajarajnagar.

He alleged that Naba Das died on the spot after getting shot at Gandhi Chhak. The airlifting of Naba Das by the State government was unnecessary.

“Naba Das was taken to Jharsuguda hospital before being airlifted to Bhubaneswar. Will the government make his ECG report public? Why did Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik fold hands (Namaste) in front of Naba Das when he arrived at the hospital in Bhubaneswar?” asked Mishra.

Mishra had earlier sounded his apprehensions over accused Gopal Das’ security. “Looking at the nature of the case, I fear for Gopal Das’ life,” he had said.

“I am concerned about the security of ASI Gopal Das. Anything can happen to him. I have no faith in Odisha Police. Hence, adequate central force should be provided for security and there is also a provision for this,” said Mishra.

The Leader of Opposition further said that there is every possibility that Gopal Das’ family may keep mum owing to political leanings and other reasons. But it is absolutely in the state’s interest and security that the Odisha government recommends a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Meanwhile, Odisha Police Havildar-Constable-Sepoy Association has condemned Leader of Opposition, Jayanarayan Mishra's statement to give up security cover over lack of faith in Odisha Police following assassination of Naba Das.
