BJP govt in Odisha prepares to showcase achievements & progress on completion of one year

As the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government in Odisha approaches its first anniversary on June 12, preparations are underway to showcase achievements and share the progress report with the public.

The administration, buoyed by a year of governance, is set to mark the milestone with grand events across districts and blocks, highlighting key initiatives. However, the path to celebration isn’t without its shadows—delayed promises, public controversies, and perceived inaction have fuelled growing scrutiny.

Government Gears Up to Showcase Achievements

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi is expected to unveil a detailed ‘report card’ capturing the government's performance over the last 12 months. Ministers have been directed to prepare annual reports for their respective departments. A high-level committee under the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department will compile the government’s flagship achievements into a comprehensive success dossier.

Major highlights include the much-discussed Subhadra Yojana, the extension of Ayushman Bharat, a subsidy of Rs 800 per quintal for paddy under the Input Support Scheme, and the establishment of a Rs 500 crore corpus fund for the Jagannath Temple.

The reopening of the Ratna Bhandar and all four temple gates, along with new welfare schemes like the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana and Antyodaya Housing Scheme, have also made headlines.

Big Events, Bigger Promises

The government has hosted several major national events such as the Navy Day in Puri, the DGP Conference in Bhubaneswar, and the Pravasi Bharatiya Sammilani, while also attracting investment opportunities worth over Rs 16 lakh crore during the Make in Odisha Conclave. These reflect the state’s growing stature under the ‘double engine’ governance model.

"All the departments are working hard for 24x7 hours. We all are visiting different areas, and our report card preparation is underway," said Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia.

"We have already submitted our 100-day report cards, and now we will submit our one-year report cards. We have been preparing our report cards meticulously to inform people about our work," said Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik.

Controversies & Unfulfilled Commitments

Despite the successes, the government has not been free of controversy. Issues such as the fall of Lord Balabhadra from the chariot during Rath Yatra, alleged misconduct by the former Governor’s son, and the death of Nepali students at KIIT University have stirred public concern.

Other troubling incidents include the Bharatpur police mistreatment case, the Chikiti hooch tragedy, and floodlight failure at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack during an international cricket match.

Meanwhile, critical electoral promises like the investigation on chit fund scam, increased pension for senior citizens, and action on the 60-page BJP chargesheet on the previous BJD government—which included corruption allegations on mining, black rose, and misuse of government funds, are still pending.

"The administrative work is on the right path, and the Chief Minister is taking a proactive role. However, no steps have been taken to nab the culprits behind chit fund and mining scams," said political analyst Akshay Sahoo.

As per reports, A broad range of activities have been proposed as part of the celebration, which include public outreach programmes across all 115 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), regional transport offices, and port areas to highlight key developmental milestones. Exhibitions and multimedia campaigns will display success stories and transformative initiatives. Foundation stone laying and inauguration ceremonies will be held for major projects across sectors.
