The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Jharsuguda bypoll, Tankadhar Tripathy filed his nomination papers on Monday.

Tripathy took out a huge procession from Manmohan School ground in Jharsuguda at around 9 AM, which moved through Jharsuguda Railway Station, Beheramal Square and bus terminal, before filing his nomination papers at the sub-collector’s office.

He was joined by State BJP Chief Manmohan Samal, MP Suresh Pujari, senior leader Sameer Mohanty and other.

“This is a responsibility I have taken upon myself to serve the people of Jharsuguda. This fight is between the Jharsuguda people and 24 years of unfair and egoistic governance. It is evident from thousands of common men who have joined me today to remove the existing party in power.”

Speaking about the issues through which he would try to corner the BJD, Tripathy said, “We need an educated, healthy, clean and safe Jharsuguda. The people have already joined us to take their Constituency towards prosperity.”

Asked about the heat wave and temperature, he termed the heat of large scale injustice by the current government more unbearable than the sun’s heat.

Earlier on Saturday, Congress’ Tarun Pandey filed his nomination papers.

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate, Dipali Das will reportedly file her nomination papers on Tuesday.

The voting for the Assembly Constituency will be held on May 10 and the counting of votes will be done on May 13.

While submission of nominations for the bypoll will continue till April 20, scrutiny of the same will be held on April 21. Nominations for the by-election can be withdrawn till April 24.
