BJP, BJD members fight over New Year gate construction in Kendrapara; Section 163 clamped

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Kendrapara authorities impose Section 163 amid BJP-BJD clash over New Year gate at Durga Mandap. Police intervention required to maintain order.

Section 163 clamped in Aul Bazar, Kendrapara

The Kendrapara district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at Durga Mandap square of Aul Bazar and its adjoining areas following a political dispute between BJP and BJD over the erection of a New Year’s decorative gate.

The orders by the magistrate will remain in force until further notice. The order strictly prohibits any unlawful assemblies or gatherings.

The issue arose at the Durga Mandap square, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) volunteers attempted to construct the gate. However, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers opposed the erection as they had been doing it over the years.

This led to a confrontation between the two political groups that soon escalated to unrest in the area, necessitating police intervention to restore order. Following the clash, both parties were called to the local police station in an attempt by officials to mediate the dispute. However, neither the BJP nor the BJD was willing to compromise on the gate erection at the square.

In response to the continued tensions, authorities have enforced Section 163, which prohibits public gatherings and activities in the area. The directive was issued by the magistrate, who has also informed both groups of the restrictions. These measures will remain in place until further court instructions.

Security has been significantly enhanced in the Durga Mandap area to maintain public order. Law enforcement officials remain stationed at the site to ensure public order.

As of now, there have been no official statements from the BJP, the BJD, or the police regarding the incident.
