In a bold political move, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has actively participated in an anti-BJP rally, signaling its opposition to the ruling party’s policies. Simultaneously, BJD representatives have left for Chennai ahead of a crucial meeting on delimitation scheduled for tomorrow.

Two senior BJD leaders, Sanjay Das Burma and Amar Patnaik, left for Chennai on Friday. Prior to their departure, the leaders stated that BJD would raise its voice for the protection of Odisha’s interests. They emphasized that despite Odisha’s commendable performance in managing its population at the national level, the forthcoming delimitation if based solely on population figures could adversely impact the state.

During the pre-meeting discussions, Sanjay Das Burma stated that the issue of delimitation would be a key agenda item at tomorrow’s session, where BJD plans to articulate its stance firmly.

“There is a need for a discussion and only after the meeting, we will know how much Odisha is going to be affected. We will use this platform to ensure that Odisha’s concerns are not sidelined, especially on matters affecting population representation,” he asserted.

BJP hits back….

In response to the new political equation shaping up, Odisha Minister Krushna Chandra Patra lashed out over BJD’s decision to attend the Chennai meet on delimitation. The minister’s sharp criticism underscored the deep divisions within the political landscape, even as he mentioned that changes in the political equations of BJD would not pose any long-term issues.

“There is no relevance to this. BJD might go with other parties as there is every possibility that the party will not exist in future,”said Patra.

Adding another layer to the unfolding political drama, the BJD has hinted at seeking security assurances by visiting the camps of various political parties.

In a broader context, it has been announced that tomorrow a leadership delegation comprising representatives from eight states will assemble at an event hosted by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. This high-profile gathering is expected to address regional issues, including the contentious subject of delimitation.
