Pradeep Pattanayak

A day after Chief Minister Mohan Majhi alleged that when he was in the Opposition the previous government had offered him a ministerial berth and a mine in Keonjhar, BJD MLA Pratap Deb on Monday termed the Chief Minister’s statement as unfortunate.

Majhi is on a two-day visit to his district Keonjhar. This is his first visit to his birthplace after taking charge as the Chief Minister.

While addressing a felicitation meeting held in Keonjhar on Sunday, Majhi said, “Money amounting to thousands of crores has been looted from Keonjhar. In this loot, not only the previous government but also the district administration here was involved. I want to let you know this.”

“After entering Keonjhar, some non-Odias and non-Keonjharians are still looting innocent and poor tribal and common people of this district.  But they have been in the crosshairs of your Mohan Bhai. No one would be spared. In delivering justice to people, if anyone stands as a hurdle, they won’t be forgiven. They would be sent to Jharpada jail,” he had said.

“You (the previous government) told me in 2009, 2019, and 2024 that a ministerial berth and a mine in my district would be given to me. It is so astonishing. Mohan Majhi is not ‘bikau’ (venal); he is ‘tikau’ (durable). He has the capacity of not just becoming a minister but also leading the state. You have blessed me and made me Chief Minister, not minister,” he had further added.

Hitting out at the Chief Minister, BJD MLA Deb said, “The Chief Minister should have known this that he is no longer in the Opposition party. He is now the Chief Minister of Odisha. Before giving any statement, he should at least think that it is his duty to keep the prestige of his position intact.”

“The way he is giving his statements is not acceptable at all. If he is saying that he was offered inducements when he was in the Opposition, why he didn't speak about that before the media? Had he wished, he could have registered a case. He could have given a statement before the media. He should ask himself how speaking such things suits him today when he is the Chief Minister,” Deb added.

No comments were received from the Chief Minister or the BJP over the BJD MLA’s statement.
