Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) leader, Amit Kumar Patnaik was suspended from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) following his arrest in a murder case.

Amit is a resident of Karanasahi in Paralakhemundi and was appointed as the vice president of BCJD in Gajapati district. The BJD suspended Amit from the party citing anti-party activities.

According to the police, Amit was the mastermind behind the murder of 72-year-old Sarojini Patnaik at her residence in Karanasahi in Paralakhamundi of Gajapati district.

Two other accused have been identified as Pradeep Patnaik from Karanasahi and Dauda Jena from Kashinagar.

As per reports, Amit and his accomplices allegedly looted cash and gold jewellery from Sarojini’s house and murdered her while decamping with the jewellery. They also put chilli powder at the crime scene to mislead the police investigation.

The police have arrested all three accused in the case. Twenty-four grams of gold, four mobile phones, and the vehicle used in the murder were also seized from the accused.

Speaking about the arrest, Gajapati SP Swati S Kumar said, “We were assuming from the beginning that this murder is an activity of a hardened criminal. But we continued our probe. After a month-long investigation and detailed analysis, we have finally arrested three accused in the case.”
