Bhubaneswar to add 143 revenue villages under its jurisdiction for urban growth

In a major step towards urban expansion, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has approved the inclusion of 143 additional revenue villages under its jurisdiction.

This decision was taken during BDA’s 150th Authority meeting, chaired by Odisha’s Housing and Urban Development Minister and BDA Chairman Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.

Currently, BDA manages urban planning and development for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), the municipalities of Khordha and Jatni, and the Pipili Notified Area Council (NAC), along with several adjacent Gram Panchayat areas.

Expansion Plans

With the latest expansion, the number of revenue villages under BDA will rise from 569 to 712. Officials highlighted that this move aims to promote systematic urban development, strengthen infrastructure, and support regional connectivity.

The proposal will now be sent to the State Government for consideration under Section 3 of the Odisha Development Authority (ODA) Act, 1982. BDA’s expansion is expected to facilitate planned urbanization and modernization of suburban regions.

Land Monetisation Proposal Approved

Additionally, BDA approved a proposal for land monetisation, identifying several plots for auction. It also decided to initiate new housing projects in Chandrasekharpur, Jagasara, and Sanapalla in Khordha, aiming to meet the rising demand for residential spaces.
