Woman and daughter killed in Bhubaneswar Thar tragedy
In a tragic road accident in Bhubaneswar, a speeding Thar claimed the lives of a mother and her young daughter, prompting Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi to announce financial assistance of Rs 8 lakh for the bereaved family on Monday.
The aid, drawn from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), will provide Rs 4 lakh for each of the deceased.
According to reports, Rebati Raul, who had been fighting for her life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after being struck by the Thar, succumbed to her injuries on Monday, just days after losing her 8-year-old daughter, Reshma, in the same mishap.
The fatal incident occurred last Saturday in the Patrapada area when an overspeeding white Thar, allegedly racing with a black Scorpio, ploughed into Rebati, her son, and Reshma. The young girl died instantly, while Rebati and her son were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
With Rebati’s passing, the death toll from the accident has risen to two. Her son remains under treatment in a private hospital.
The tragedy has sparked widespread public outrage, drawing attention to the dangers of reckless driving and illegal street racing in the city.
