“The Department has already approved a ring road project in Bhubaneswar at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore. The proposal has been placed before the Cabinet, and ring road construction work will begin soon after getting necessary approval,” the Union Minister said while addressing a gathering during the announcement of several projects in Bhubaneswar.
Odisha is undergoing a transformative infrastructure boom, with projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore currently in progress. Among the flagship initiatives is the Ranchi-Sambalpur second corridor, set to be developed at a cost of Rs 8,000 crore.
Besides, the Chandikhol-Paradeep corridor is on track for completion by December 2026, slashing travel time from two hours to just one.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed that Rs 8,000 crore has been sanctioned under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme to bolster these developments.
Further enhancing connectivity, bypass projects are planned for Berhampur, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Nayagarh, and Jharsuguda, promising to ease traffic congestion and spur economic growth in these regions.
The State’s infrastructure overhaul is poised to redefine travel and trade, positioning Odisha as a key hub in eastern India’s development landscape.
Key components of the project
The inner ring road will feature six lanes with two service lanes. Complementary projects include a 148 km outer ring road, three flyovers at Kalpana Square, Museum Square, and Sishu Bhawan Square, an elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan locality, and an underpass at AG Square. The design incorporates Stone Matrix Asphalt surfacing at key intersections for durability.
