Grief-stricken villagers gathering near the house of a deceased person
In separate incidents, two persons were stung to death by bees in the Kamakhyanagar area of Dhenkanal district on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Jhumar Sethi and Mayadhar Dehuri of Kaduan village. A pall of gloom descended on the village following the deaths.
As per reports, Mayadhar was returning home after completing his farmland work when a swarm of bees stung him. He was rushed to Kamskhyanagar Hospital in critical condition and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital. He died while undergoing treatment.
Similarly, Jhumar Sethi of the same village was on his way back home after taking a bath when another swarm of bees attacked him. His condition was critical. He was admitted to the Kamakshyanagar Hospital, where he succumbed.
As for the incident, former sarpanch of Kadua panchayat Somnath Sethi said, “A beehive is there near our panchayat office. Though the beehive was damaged several times, the bees refused to leave the area. On Sunday, a swarm of bees attacked Mayadhar. Some others were also stung by the bees. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He died in the morning.”
