OCA submits response to Odisha govt on Barabati floodlight failure
After facing criticism over floodlight failure during the 2nd India-England ODI at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has decided to come up with an alternative measure to avoid such incidents when any match is hosted next at Barabati.
As per plans, the OCA has decided to keep two generators for each floodlight stand as a backup measure, informed Pankaj Lochan Mohanty who assumed charge as OCA President on Sunday.

“We have already submitted a response to the Odisha government. OCA has decided to keep two generators for each floodlight stand,” said Mohanty.
Taking strict note of the floodlight failure during the 2nd India-England ODI at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, the Sports and Youth Services Department of the Odisha government had earlier issued a show-cause notice to the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and asked it to explain the incident in ten days.
On his re-election as OCA president, Pankaj Lochan Mohanty said, “I was the OCA president from 2019 to 2022 and was also the vice-president. After the resignation of OCA president Bobby Das, nobody had filed nomination for the post except me. Today, I have assumed charge as OCA president after the completion of the election process. Many things need to be done, including the makeover of Barabati stadium.”
According to Mohanty, OCA will hold talks with the Odisha government to discuss various issues. “OCA has set up various academies and BCCI is ready for the Barabati stadium development. We hope that the new government will cooperate and take it in a positive way,” he added.
The second ODI between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack was halted after six overs of play in the second innings as the floodlights on February 9. The development occurred when India were batting in the second innings while chasing a victory target of 305 against the visitors.
