Following incessant rain in the upper catchment area for the last couple of days, Bansadhara river is in spate with water level crossing the danger mark in Gajapati district on Wednesday.
As per sources, water level in the river is flowing at 54.90 metre as against the danger mark of 54.60 metre near Kashinagar.
As rain is continuing in the upper catchment area, it is expected that the water flow in the river will rise further. Local residents are in a state of panic as the situation may lead to the inundation of low-lying areas. The district administration has issued advisory to the local people to remain alert.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has released the first flood water of the season through 17 gates of Gotta barrage in Srikakulam. Currently, 42, 937 cusecs of water is being released from the barrage.
Gajapapati district administration has kept a strict vigil on the water management of the neighbouring state. Meanwhile, after releasing season’s first flood water from the barrage, Andhra government has alerted the people living in the villages situated in the low lying areas.
The water level of Baitarani river has also increased following continues rainfall. The river crossed the danger mark at Rajghat. Currently, the water level of the river stands at 39.14 m against danger mark of 36.36 m.
