The Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police solved the murder case of hotelier Biswajit Nayak on Tuesday. The paramour of the deceased, Sunki Rana was arrested from Puri in this connection.

As per reports, Nayak who owned a hotel business at Balianta near Bhubaneswar, has been in a relationship with Rana for the last three years. The romantic relationship turned sour and Rana reportedly killed Nayak in a fit of rage.

Police said Sunki belonged to Jharsuguda and served jail earlier in a murder case.

Shedding light on the case, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said, “Nayak was from Hirapur, Balianta. He had a hotel business at Balianta. It was reported that he was assaulted and murdered by unknown miscreant. A team from Balianta police station had inquired into the case on the spot.”

“After the investigation, it was revealed that Nayak had a brief relationship with a lady named Sunki Rana from Jharsuguda. Rana was in jail for 12 years for murdering her sister-in-law suspecting her to be having an extra-marital affair with her husband in 2005. After her release from jail, Rana was staying at an ashram in Puri where Nayak’s mother also frequented,” Singh said.

“Relationship between Nayak and Rana developed in Puri. Gradually, Sunki started to come to Nayak’s home at Balianta and stayed for multiple days. However, whenever the ashram called, she used to return immediately which led to some friction between the duo,” he said.

“In December last year, the same kind of situation arose. Sunki wanted to return to her ashram in Puri but Nayak tried to persuade her to stay back at Balianta. The argument soon turned heated and Sunki hit Nayak’s head with a wood plank out of rage. After killing Nayak, Sunki fled the spot and hid in Puri,” revealed Singh.

The police have recovered clothes with stains of Nayak’s blood on them. The assault weapon has also been recovered by the police.

Rana will be forwarded to court today, the police said.
