A day after a man lost his life after his car plunged into Taladanda canal, another minor girl also lost her life in another mishap in Cuttack on Tuesday.

As per reports, the girl was initially injured after she fell down and got trapped between huge pipes and a concrete slab of a bridge over a drain in Kesharpur-Gamandia area in the morning.

The girl was reportedly stuck under large pipes installed at the spot for the construction of the ongoing box drain project in the city. The bridge (pathway) constructed to facilitate the movement of people from one end to the other side of the drain later collapsed in the rescue operation.

Sources said the minor girl was rescued after an intense operation was launched by the local residents. The residents tried everything available at the spot to rescue the girl trapped between the pipes and the concrete structure of the bridge.

Later, the girl was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, she died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Earlier, one person was killed while another sustained injuries after the car they were travelling in plunged into Taladanda canal near the Matrubhawan-Nuabazar road on Monday. The district administration has sought a report from the Superintending engineer of R&B and Sub-Collector (Sadar) in connection with the incident.
