According to sources, the contentious family dispute over property inheritance took a violent turn in Bharatpur. Police were called to mediate after a physical confrontation broke out between two brothers Ashok and Surya Maharana regarding ownership claims.

Ashok, the younger sibling, sustained significant injuries after being attacked by his elder brother Surya. When neighbours attempted to intervene and aid Ashok, the residents too encountered hostility from Surya, heightening tensions further.

The Bharatpur Police, intent on diffusing the situation, faced challenges as the dispute intensified. Upon arrival, a standoff ensued when local residents attempted to take Surya from police custody and proceeded to cause damage to a police vehicle.

In the ensuing chaos, a female police officer, along with the van driver, sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby private hospital for medical attention.

Separate and detailed probes into the cases are underway, a senior cop said.
