Odisha Transport Department fines individuals for performing dangerous stunts on moving bikes for social media reels, with penalties up to Rs 21,500.

In a crackdown on dangerous stunts for social media, the Odisha Transport Department imposed hefty fines on individuals making reels on moving bikes after their videos went viral online.

A couple from Athagarh in Cuttack district has been fined Rs 16,000 after they were seen performing risky stunts on a motorcycle for short social media videos(reels/shorts). In the viral video, the husband was riding a bullet motorcycle while his wife was seated in front, creating a potentially life-threatening scenario.

The video, posted on Instagram, quickly gained traction and caught public attention. One concerned youth on social media tagged the transport department, DGP of Odisha Police, and Cuttack District Collector while sharing the video and vehicle number, demanding strict action against such lawbreakers.

Acting on the alert, the Cuttack RTO identified the vehicle owner, Mohan Sahu, and fined him ₹16,000 under multiple violations. 

Meanwhile, in the Dhanupali area of Sambalpur, seven youths were caught performing stunts and joyrides on a single scooter, which resulted in a total fine of Rs 21,500 being imposed. The transport authorities have made it clear that reckless behavior for social media fame will not be tolerated, and such offenders will face strict legal consequences.

“We traced the vehicle within 40-45 minutes and seized the vehicle. The accused rider was also detained. He was released after interrogation and warning, but his vehicle was seized. The RTO has been informed about the incident, and they will take necessary action in this regard,” informed Tophan Bag, SP, Cuttack Rural.
