The Odisha State Bar Council served a ‘show-cause’ notice to Archana Nag on Tuesday over inconsistencies in her lawyer license application. The concern is primarily centered on her failure to disclose the ongoing criminal cases that are still active against her.
According to official sources, Archana Nag was accorded a lawyer license by the Bar Council on May 10. However, she had suppressed the fact in her application that several criminal cases are still pending against her. Appropriate action will be taken against her if she fails to submit a convincing reply to the Bar Council within seven days.
“In connection with your (Archana Nag’s) enrollment, it is here with intimated that you are enrolled on 10.05.2025 bearing Enrollment No-O-184-2025. In the meantime it has come to the notice of the Odisha State Bar Council that there are criminal cases pending against you in the court of law. On verification of your application form submitted for enrolment on 02.09.2024, it was found that you have intentionally suppressed the above said fact with regard to pending of criminal cases against you at the time of submission of your enrolment form. You have mentioned 'NO' in column-20 against the information sought for in the said Application Form,” the Bar Council ‘show-cause’ notice read.
“You are hereby put to notice to show cause as to why appropriate action shall not be initiated against you in accordance with law. Your show-cause must reach within seven days from the date of receipt of this notice failing which the Council shall proceed ex-parte in the matter as deem fit and proper,” the official communiqué mentioned.
